When you’re pregnant, 80 degrees can feel like 90 because pregnant women already have some natural heat intolerance. Pregnant women are also more susceptible to dehydration because their bodies demand more water, so if you’re expecting, take care of yourself and pregnancy health this summer by following these tips for cooling you and your baby down:

6 Cooling Tips

  1. Avoid the midday sun when it is the hottest
  2. Carry a water bottle and stay hydrated. Drink 48-64 ounces of water daily
  3. Use a cooling towel – a synthetic, evaporative cooling aid that is significantly colder than a typical towel (these can be found at Target, Walmart, Bed Bath and Beyond and other stores).
  4. Get in the pool. It will cool you down and give you a break from the extra weight you’re carrying around
  5. Be mindful of the negative impact of crowded summer events can have on your body
  6. Don’t ride roller coasters, ATV’s or waterski. It’s not worth the risk

And remember, summer temperatures bring out the bugs, so wear bug spray. Contrary to some reports, DEET is safe and will keep you safe from bug bites.
